Pearl Harbor memorial service in Hawaii to move to new site

Boston National Historical Park will host a service and wreath-laying ceremony aboard the World War II-era destroyer USS Cassin Young to commemorate the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

“I have a little bit of everything”, said O’Neill, a retired Navy captain with 37 years of service. “He will do four or five things a day”, said O’Neill’s Bradenton neighbor, Billy Prater.

Alexander served in the Navy until 1954.

“We were on the way to breakfast when the Japanese attacked”. “I saw all these planes diving, explosions it looked like, a lot of smoke”. I mean we didn’t expect it. We shot our own planes that night. Seating for the public will begin at 7:15 a.m. But we recuperated and reorganized.

“There were guys in my neighborhood who packed their lunch and left their houses within minutes of the announcement”, recalled Fabregas, an energetic octogenarian who finally stopped working just this year, when his physician son told him to slow down.

“They never had a chance to fight for their country”, said Murray.

Roosevelt, in making his short, eloquent case for declaration of war, noted that while the attack was a surprise, it required a great deal of planning, even as those plotting the lethal assault pretended to negotiate for a peaceful resolution.

Eight days later, Wilkinson would be witness to the attack on Pearl Harbor that would leave 19 United States ships destroyed.

The president of the Navy League and a World War II veteran say it’s important to remember the past so history doesn’t repeat itself.

The museum unveiled the artifact Sunday during a ceremony marking the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. “But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.
