The Big Ten championship game made things simple: Undefeated Iowa going up against Michigan State. The main events will be a Cotton Bowl showdown between No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Michigan State, and an Orange Bowl matchup featuring No. 1 Clemson and No. 4 Oklahoma. But unless the committee has a specific guideline that a conference needs a champion through a conference championship game (which at least publicly they say it doesn’t), Oklahoma have been more impressive than The Cardinal. “Very little discussion as Clemson was clearly the Number One team in the nation”. The highest ranked conference champion from the Group of 5 conferences (American, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt) also will receive a spot.
