Gears of War: Ultimate Edition to be bundled with Xbox One starting August 25th

In a day and age where PC ports are typically treated as second-class citizens by developers, Rod Fergusson, the studio head working on Gears Ultimate, gave some details on the differences between the Xbox One version and the PC version of the game.

Developer The Coalition shared last week, via DualShockers, that the PC version of Gears of War Ultimate would not be a simple port of the Xbox One version.

Gears of War 4 was announced at E3 this year, and Microsoft have finally confirmed that the beta on Xbox One will begin in spring 2016. “It’s really hard work [to remaster an entire series]”, he said.

“It took us in the end 16 to 18 months to do the first one, and to try and do three games… how many people would we need to have?” It just wasn’t logistically or physically or technically possible.

During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) this weekend, The Coalition, the studio helming the development of Gears of War Ultimate Edition, talked a bit about the PC version’s development.

Microsoft was quick to clarify that the only Xbox One systems that would receive the free game are the ones that are part of the Ultimate Edition bundle.

Additionally, the official Gears of War forums posted the official list of in-game achievements available for the upcoming game. However, they’re getting their feet wet with the series in the same way that 343 got their feet wet with the anniversary edition of Halo: Combat Evolved. Adding Gears 2 and 3 would mean the collection wouldn’t have been able to come out this year.
