K K Sharma the chief secretary of Delhi has said that, every year the pollution levels in winter raises in the city and since last many weeks, different departments were working on the measure of abatement but in spite of it, in past few days the condition was very critical.

Private vehicles will only be allowed on Delhi’s roads on alternate days from January, authorities said Friday, as the world’s most polluted capital tries to clean up its fetid air.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been facing criticism from all the opposition parties, thanked Justice Thakur for his support and said that this would provide inspiration to millions of others.

Besides, grass will be grown on the roadsides, he added.

BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli termed the move as “half- baked and knee-jerk” and said the Delhi government should come out with a “comprehensive” approach.

Seeking to assuage concerns, Kejriwal said his government would not allow the people to be inconvenienced.

Rao further said the Delhi Government should have a road map before implementing such a measure without causing serious discomfort to the people.

The Chief Minister said apart from the elevated corridor for buses, he had thought of redesigning roads, augmenting public transport by bringing at least 10,000 buses before introducing restrictive measures.

Officials say even-numbered cars will be allowed to run on even dates and odd-numbered ones on odd dates.

The rising levels of pollution and the court’s observation necessitated immediate action, Arvind Kejriwal said, speaking at the HT Leadership Summit.

“The availability of reliable, real time data via the National Air Quality Index is a critical first step, and must be followed by clear health advisories and response protocols”, Dahiya told DPA news agency.

In recent days, pollution levels in Delhi have reached alarming levels and on Thursday, the Delhi high court said the city resembled a “gas chamber”.

The government will implement Euro 6 standards – for vehicular emission in Delhi by Jan 1, 2017, he said. “We expect the public to cooperate”. This rule will be applicable from 1st Of January 2016. I would suggest SC judges to make a vehicle pooling system, that will give a right message to public.
