Kendrick Lamar Leads Grammy Nominations
Lamar is running the show this year and leading in nominations with a whopping 11 – that’s 4 more than reigning Grammy Queen Taylor Swift! There is no doubt that Kendrick Lamar is deserving of the nominations, his album “To Pimp A Butterfly” was released over 6 months ago – and is still making waves and generating buzz. Tied for second are R&B sensation the Weeknd and pop megastar Taylor Swift, both up for seven awards.

Erotic drama “Fifty Shades of Grey” powered The Weeknd to three of his Grammy nods for single “Earned It” which was featured on the movie’s soundtrack.
The 24-year-old tweeted: “I wasn’t expecting the Grammy noms, thank you”. It’s just that after her world tour and the success of her last album – she thought that she and Kendrick would be neck and neck. Stapleton was reportedly ineligible for Best New Artist due to his prior recordings and nominations as part of the Steeldrivers, who earned a Best Blugrass Album nomination for The Muscle Shoals Recordings in their current Stapleton-free incarnation.
Especially among the four major categories – Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist – numerous nominees were almost a forgone conclusion, considering the rapturous response they’ve already received from critics and fans alike.
The band, who recently won five awards at the ARIAS for their album Currents, are up against Alabama Shakes, Bjork and others. “Don’t Wanna Fight” got the nod for best rock performance. Traveller producer Dave Cobb nabbed an all-genre Producer of the Year nomination for his work with Stapleton, A Thousand Horses and Jason Isbell and is up against pop heavyweights like Diplo and Jeff Bhasker.
The Recording Academy announced nominations for the 58th Annual GRAMMYAwards in all 83 categories this morning.

In Best Americana Album, nominees included Jason Isbell’s Dave Cobb-produced Something More Than Free, along with the Mavericks’ Mono and projects by Brandi Carlile, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, and Punch Brothers.
