Both sides have made impressive starts to the season with Mauricio Pochettino’s side going quietly about their business.

“It’s true that we showed from the beginning of the season that we are consistent but maybe for us to try to win the title we need more“, he added.

“It is step by step”.

The north London outfit are now five points behind Arsenal in the top four but they can close the gap when they take on West Ham on Sunday afternoon. We need to work hard and keep our feet on the ground’.

But Spurs had their three-goal cushion six minutes after the restart when some sloppy defending by the vistors saw Eriksen stealing possession before playing in Kane, whose 20-yard effort packed too much punch and swerve for Adrian. The players believe in our philosophy.

Pochettino said: “I laugh”.

Kane started the season with just one goal in his first 13 games for Spurs but has hit back in stunning style to silence the one-season wonder talk.

Tottenham’s Europa League commitments have already seen them play three games in six days this month, although they did not have to travel out of England for any of them, and Pochettino is aware that the next few days will be even more challenging.

Speaking after the final whistle, the former Southampton boss thought it was “an fantastic performance” and could only summarise the result with the word “proud”.

‘I am very proud, ‘ he said.

West Ham managed a late consolation through Manuel Lanzini, but it was a fine display from Spurs, who also had Eric Dier and Danny Rose in their starting line-up. There’s a lot of things in his head. He has a strong character and every fight he is inside.

Pochettino said: “Football is about living the experience and he has to be sure that, next time, he’s more relaxed”. West Ham, Spurs and the Metropolitan Police are now working together to investigate the matter to uncover the events of Sunday.

“A surprise is a word for something good – it was a shock”.

West Ham’s heaviest defeat of the season came in their first match without the injured Dimitri Payet but manager Slaven Bilic said the maestro’s absence could be no excuse. The whole week’s training has been incredible so we went into the game just trying to put that out on the pitch and we have come out with a good result.
