The memorial was dedicated in 1962.

Seventy-four years later, the bombing of the military base in Hawaii was commemorated at Pearl Harbor by a joint service held by the National Park Service and the U.S. Navy on Monday.
Daniel Martinez, USS Arizona Memorial chief historian, explained the bourbon whiskey’s significance as a peace offering. Three hundred and fifty three Japanese aircraft dropped bombs and strafed with machine gun fire, 100 U.S. Navy ships and the surrounding Army Air Corps and Marine airfield at Pearl Harbor. Presiding at the ceremony will be 92-year-old Larry Petretti, the last active Sonoma County member of the Santa Rosa-based Pearl Harbor Survivors, North Bay. Downing said that he feels that same wave of patriotism going across the country as well. “You have to always be prepared, but there are times when it is impossible to prepare and action must be taken”.
But the day is also remembered because of the sacrifices and determination of the American military personnel and people during World War II. “But the trees kept us from seeing it”, said Greenleaf.
During the December 7 attack, 23 sets of brothers died aboard USS Arizona. He described a memorial in the shape of the falllen ship, with 1,177 medallions marking the name of the men lost aboard the ship.
“They gave their lives but will live forever in our memory”, he said. “While not all families will receive an individual identification, we will strive to provide resolution to as many families as possible”. “When the japs attacked Pearl Harbor there was no more division”.
“I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire”.
Since this was during the first world war, the meteorologist discovering these boundaries of unsettled weather likened them to the battle fronts across Europe, so he made a decision to call them fronts.
The San Bernardino, Calif., attack, to be certain, is not comparable in size, scope or significance to these historic events, but we should recall Pearl Harbor and 9/11, especially today, in no small part because of the moral leadership and clarity that presidents – one Democrat, one Republican – displayed.

Harris, who leads the U.S. Pacific Command, says for 74 years, the nation has remembered Pearl Harbor. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
