Improved defense helps Texans turn season around
Not having Ellerbe or Hawthrone available will be something the team has to overcome, but having Humber and Kikaha should help – assuming they play.

“It’s a good defense, we knew that going in. and yet, we’ve got MAs (missed assignments) on routes, guys busting some basic, basic things”.
New Orleans’ next drive was a three-and-out, and the Texans drove 50 yards in seven plays – with two third-down conversions – to take a 14-0 lead with 1:29 left in the first quarter on Hoyer’s 3-yard pass to Cecil Shorts III. After entering Sunday leading the National Football League converting 47.2 percent of their third downs, the Saints finished 3 for 12 on Sunday.
Quarterback Drew Brees topped the 3,000-yard passing yard mark, but he also failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time in what seems like forever.
“It’s just a testament to the work we’ve been putting in for us to go out and communicate and to be on the same page each and every play”, Jackson said. “If you said, do they rush the ball well – yes, is the quarterback (Cam Newton) playing at a high level – yes, are they good in the red zone – yes”. Houston held New Orleans to just 268 yards of total offense.
“I continue to believe in this team, ” Cooks continued.
And while you can make jokes about the AFC South (it’s easy, trust us), the Texans are playing well enough to be legitimate playoff contenders regardless of address. They were three-point favorites today.
Running the ball, the Texans had one of their best games of the season. Absolutely everything. Everything that possibly could have gone right for them did. That’s what kind of separates good defense from mediocre defense.
The Saints have been known for their fast starts in games, but Sunday against the Texans they were the farthest from doing anything like that. It was a completely dominant performance from the Texans’ defense, which over its past 18 quarters has allowed only two touchdowns. Our third down defense, we had a few opportunities early to get off of the field and we weren’t able to do so. He notched his sixth multiple-touchdown game of the season (10th of his career) and opened the game with 11 consecutive completions before throwing an interception. Brees, who passed for 228 yards, had his individual streak of games with a touchdown pass snapped at 45.
Quarterback Brian Hoyer had a strong outing for the Texans (6-5), aided (a lot) by a New Orleans defense that is one of the worst in the league. “This is a good locker room and we just have to be better at what we are doing and look closely at eliminating mistakes that are being repeated and evaluate those”.

Forbath knocked through a 57-yard field goal in the second quarter, which was the longest of his career – by seven yards – and knocked through a 30-yarder. Houston changed that on the first drive of the third quarter. The Carolina Panthers ground game is averaging 138.9 yards per contest, and Jonathan Stewart leads the way with 832 yards and four touchdowns. Vince Lombardi left the Green Bay Packers for the Washington Redskins at one point.
