Woman Tried to Buy Baby on Craigslist: Deputies

Forsyth County detectives received a tip about a suspicious Craigslist advertisement that promised mothers they could drop off unwanted babies in a “baby box”.

A 47-year-old mother was arrested after police received a tip-off from a resident about the suspicious Craigslist posting seeking babies for her 14-year-old daughter.

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper said, even though no one dropped off a baby at Williams’ home, the mother and her daughter made room for an infant.

“It’s a complete lack of empathy”.

Under Georgia law it is illegal to advertise to accept children unless one has been verified by state authorities. Police officers allege the daughter faces adolescent charges associated to the ad. The Related Press doesn’t usually name juveniles charged with crimes and isn’t naming the mom to keep away from identifying the daughter.

The Department of Homeland Security has reportedly joined the investigation to determine if any potential child trafficking violations were committed.
