“By posting this video of Storm Desmond in Salthill, Galway I wish to highlight the absolute madness and stupidity of what these youngsters are doing”, he said. Don’t take risks on treacherous roads and don’t swim in the sea.

Global media have picked up on the story with reports in The Independent and The Guardian in Britain, while CNN in the U.S. sought out Teresa for an interview yesterday.

Teresa urged viewers not to make any unnecessary journeys, and urged people to stay away from the sea, referring to how people were seen jumping into the sea in Salthill as the storm raged.

Twitter users suggested she should win “multiple awards”, but only after she had “had a hot whiskey or three”. “I can’t stop laughing watching it”, Ms Mannion added.

“The phone has not stopped ringing and I have acquired thousands of followers out of nowhere”.
