Eagles of Death Metal took the stage in Paris on Monday for the first time since terrorists killed 90 people at the rock band’s last concert in the French capital.

U2 paid a touching tribute to the victims of November’s terror attacks on Sunday night (December 6) as they returned to Paris for the first time following the Bataclan theatre concert horror.

“These are our brothers, our fellow troubadours and they were robbed of their stage, so we’d like to offer them ours tonight”, Bono said toward the end of the concert. “We have the privilege to be your servants this evening”, said Bono before dedicating a song to his mother, “Iris (Hold Me Close)”. “If you love liberty, then Paris is your hometown”.

U2 used to beappearing its own show – which become postponed after the assaults – once they provided EODM.

The concert was recorded, and will air Monday night on HBO.

The crowd cheered and sang along as the two groups joined together for a version of Patti Smith song People Have The Power.

“When there’s such an intensity of trouble you have to live so you have to follow up your life as if…not like nothing happened but to show that there is a resistance”, said U2 fan Franck Marchal.

In the aftermath of the mayhem, U2 reached out to Eagles of Death Metal and learned that all of their cell phones had been left behind as they attempted to escape.

The band was the headliner at the sold-out show at the Bataclan theater and was about halfway through its set when the attacks took place. U2 had apparently went out of their way to offer assistance to the band after the tragedy, even going as far as purchasing new cell phones for the band members after they were forced to abandon their phones in the Bataclan. Our friends went there to see rock and roll and died.

“Now we can’t save you, but our prayer tonight is to be useful to you for the evening. I had tickets for one of the cancelled shows – it was my birthday, actually – and there was never any question of me not coming back, no matter what”.
