Newman has introduced a bill in the Missouri state house that would apply literally the same restrictions on abortion in the state to those seeking to purchase a gun.

Based on current Missouri abortion restrictions, H.B. “If we truly insist that Missouri cares about “all life”, Newman said, “then we must take immediate steps to address our major cities’ rising rates of gun violence”.
“Americans basically are sick, we’re sick to our stomachs”, said Missouri Rep. Stacey Newman, (D) Clayton.
Her Twitter bio, beneath a pink StandWithPP picture, describes her as: “wife, Mom, Nana, obsessive about reproductive justice, voters rights, women’s rights, equality & of course-gun violence prevention”.
The bill initiated by Newman on December 1 specifies that all would-be firearm buyers would have to undergo counseling provided by a licensed medical practitioner, so as to ensure that the weapons are used carefully and responsibly, exclusively for self-defense. She expects her bill to both restrict gun ownership and shed light on the effects of Missouri’s anti-abortion legislation to face harsh opposition when it is debated in the state legislature next month.
When The Daily Beast asked Newman for the impetus behind the bill, she replied “utter frustration”.
The law, which will be discussed in the 2016 legislative session, isn’t however unlikely to be successful, given that the state house is dominated by Republicans who will surely oppose such an initiative.

“I’m alone”, Representative Newman said.
Review the medical risks associated with firearms, including photographs of fatal firearm injuries, and the alternatives to purchasing a firearm, including “materials about peaceful and nonviolent conflict resolution”, with the gun dealer orally and in writing.
– Submit to an evaluation for the physician to search the individual for indicators and contraindicators and risk factors and determine if such firearm purchase would increase the purchaser’s risk of experiencing an adverse physical, emotional, or other health reaction.
Tour an emergency trauma center at the nearest qualified urban hospital on a weekend between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., when gun violence victims are present, and get written verification from a doctor.

Missouri could soon allow guns on college campuses as two Republican Senators are pushing a bill to lift the ban on guns in college campuses. During the three-day waiting period, there would be meetings with two families that are victims of gun violence and two religious leaders who officiated at the funerals of gun violence victims younger than 18.
