Microsoft warns Internet Explorer users to upgrade or lose support
This news comes courtesy of Josh Mayfield, the creator of GWX Control Panel, a piece of software which allows users to block the Windows 10 upgrade from popping up on their PCs.

He says Microsoft not only reinstalls this application daily, and sometimes more frequently, but that it slightly changes the code to make it look like a new application, apparently in an attempt to fool the GWX Control Panel tool.
“This is new behavior, and it does leave your PC vulnerable to unwanted Windows 10 upgrade behavior”, he said.
Vine Report also states that starting January 12, Microsoft will be creating security patches for their latest browser, “Internet Explorer 11”.
Although Microsoft’s Edge browser is the default web tool on Windows 10 many users have turned their back on it.
Mainstream support for Windows 8 ends in 2018 but you’ll still receive security updates until 2023 – but ONLY if you’ve installed the free upgrade to Windows 8.1.
The migration to Windows 10 will take place in stages, and at first, 3,000 devices will be switched to the new operating system by the start of the next university year.
Seeing a major university implement Windows 10 campus-wide seems like a significant step in Microsoft’s strategy of making its newest operating system the ubiquitous choice. Mayfield released GWX Control Panel 1.6 – which is a free download – on November 24.
“At UON we have the opportunity to make great strides over the next five years, and we’re looking forward to leveraging Windows 10 to provide the best possible learning environment for our students”, Ann Walters, the University’s Associate Director, IT Client Services, said in a press release (which you can also find after the jump).
Millions of people – and many businesses – around the world are still using old versions of Internet Explorer, particularly versions 9 and 10.

According to Mayfield, the continuous updates for “Get Windows 10” and the Windows Update for Win7 and 8.1 may have something to do with one another. The upgrade will help the company monitor the quality of your upgrade experience. If they do get Windows 10 installed, they will have 90 days to revert to Windows 7 or 8.1 without losing any files.
