Broncos get easy win over Chargers, 17-3

The Denver Broncos got a first-quarter offensive touchdown and a first-quarter defensive touchdown on the way to beating the San Diego Chargers, 17-3, on Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium. Denver coach Gary Kubiak said Trevathan, who entered the game with the second-most tackles among Broncos, would enter the NFL’s concussion protocol.

“He’s been throwing a little bit inside through some rehab process stuff”, Kubiak said. But the thing I really like about him is he learns from mistakes. “There’s not only our football team, there’s 31 other teams out there watching it and if you can’t show up every Sunday and play your tails off you’re in the wrong business. I’ve known from the very first day they did it. I’m happy for Tom”.

“We got a quick start, a quick score”, Osweiler said.

A 51-yard Josh Lambo field goal was all that separated the Broncos from their first shutout in a decade. Teams now have tape on him and they have an idea of what works and what doesn’t against him.

“I think that’s what he’s learning because so many times as a player you go practice and practice and say, ‘Well that didn’t look the same, “‘ Kubiak said.

“It could change, but right now we might go into a modified small workout with him”.

Thomas was coming off the worst game of his career, when he caught just one of 13 passes thrown his way.

“Early in the season, we were just bam, bam, bam, always on the field”.

Towards the end of the game Denver’s All-Pro linebacker Von Miller drove Rivers in to the ground, prompting Rivers to get in Miller’s face to voice his displeasure.

Maxim Garshman is a Bay Area native who now calls San Diego home.

The defense is second in points allowed per game at 17.5 (only fellow AFC contender Cincinnati is better at 16.3 points), first in yards given up per game (284.7) and passing yard per game (195.6) as well as fifth against the run (89.1 yards) per contest. Danny Trevathan returned a Philip Rivers interception 25 yards to the endzone on the last play of the opening quarter to give Denver a 14-0 lead.

NOTES: Broncos TE Vernon Davis also suffered a concussion. Ward “will probably take some time to get back”, Kubiak said…. Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware (back) and S T.J. Ward (ankle) were inactive….

“I feel good”, he said.
