A newborn baby girl was found buried alive near a Compton riverbed.
“Boese said tips from the public and media coverage of the baby’s rescue led to the arrest”, the AP reported. “Deputies removed the pieces of asphalt and debris and rescued the baby from the crevice”.
The baby was found by sheriff deputies buried underneath asphalt and rubble.
The arrest comes almost a week after the infant was discovered by two women, walking on the path, who had heard what they believed to be a cat crying. Washington did not want to deliver her baby and did not want people to know she was pregnant, authorities said.
Two women were taking a walk on the bike path around 4 p.m. on November 27 when they heard the baby’s “muffled” cries, Sheriff Jim McDonnell said at a news conference four days after the newborn was found.
“It made me really sad to hear the baby’s wails”, said McCrary. Jaramilla said that the child’s mother was probably too afraid and was not ready to raise her child. The newborn was estimated to be between 24- to 36-hours old and likely would not have survived the night.
The deputies pulled the baby out of the ground and paramedics took her to a hospital, where authorities said on Monday she remained under medical care in good condition.

LA has a “Baby Safe Surrender Program” meant to prevent situations like this, which allows parents the option to leave their baby at a hospital or fire station without facing any questions.
