Queen Latifah has joined the cast of “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels’ new untitled Fox drama pilot. Queen will be playing the role of Carlotta, an Atlanta beauty salon owner with musical talents of her own who becomes somewhat of a surrogate mother to the trio-even though she’s not really in support of their musical dreams.
The upcoming Fox show, “Star”, has the same vibe that E!
However, Walden later revealed that “Star” will be “a wholly contained original series”, she said as quoted by the publication.
Hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz, whose wife Alicia Keys now has a recurring role on Empire, will create the music for the new series.
“It’s not inconceivable that the two worlds could cross, but that’s not Lee’s intention”. Daniels is off and running with the series, especially after getting reportedly getting Queen Latifah to sign on, but who else will be on the show beside the Oscar-nominated actress? Latifah will star on the show as a character named Carlotta, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Demorest’s Star is a tough 18-year-old who has spent most of her childhood in foster homes. Destiny has been cast as Alexandra, the wealthy 20-year-old who grew up on New York’s Upper East Side but has tried to put her privileged world behind her for years so she can make authentic music.
