Stunning new photos: Kate wears Princess Diana’s signature tiara for the first

The reception is what’s considered a “white tie” event, also known as full evening dress, meaning the men wear a white bow tie and a black tailcoat and women wear long formal gowns and a tiara if they own one.

The Duchess of Cambridge has spellbound onlookers by wearing Princess Diana’s signature tiara to a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace overnight.

Per the experts who operate the British Royals Twitter account, for tonight’s event Kate is wearing the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, which was given to Princess Diana as a wedding gift from the Queen.

But it’s not just any tiara.

The diamond and pearl-encrusted tiara was made in 1914 and has a strong French influence with a neo-classical design of 19 diamond arches, each cradling an oriental pearl drop.

In her will, Queen Mary left the tiara to to the Queen, who wore it frequently.
