Neville opens doors to Valencia fans on first day

Gary Neville’s lack of Spanish will not be a problem when he takes charge of Valencia from Sunday as there are plenty of players who speak reasonable English, according to interim coach Salvador Gonzalez.

“We’re very happy because we’ve played the game that we had to”, said Voro. It’s a big contribution he’s made at England and I’ve seen it in him.

“For me, always you want to find a striker that scores a lot of goals and who has a good physical condition – someone with good characteristics who can press, work hard and is a nice guy too”.

“I’ve been offered jobs in football over these last four or five years but the timing has never felt right”, he said.

I’m going to take Gary Neville’s new side Valencia +2 and hope that the hostile atmosphere of the Mestalla along with a new manager inspire Valencia to a terrific performance.

“My family will move over here permanently”.

Neville is certainly a man who is set about being a success in his first venture into management.

Although he has ended his affiliation with Sky, Neville will continue in his coaching position alongside Roy Hodgson in the England set-up and does not envisage any issues arising from his dual commitments, revealing all of his other projects will take a back seat for the time being. I am sure he will be on the phone to the Omnipresent Scot when he needs some tips on controlling some unruly players.

Both of the Neville brothers have ended up at Mestalla due to their respective relationships with the club’s owner Peter Lim. “I would be skeptical and want to be proven otherwise”.

Neville, who spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson after accepting the role, feels he will have to quickly assess the squad he has inherited because he does not have the benefit of a pre-season period working with the players.

At this stage last season, Van Gaal’s team had lost three times and were 11 points behind table toppers Chelsea.

“It is important he understands Spanish football, because they want the team to have possession of the ball”.

The former Manchester United and England defender said yesterday at his unveiling that it was time “to stand up”.

“We have two games in March, in the worldwide break when Valencia don’t play”. I was inspired by the conversation I had with him.

Valencia supporters are well known in Spain for their demanding expectations, and there were mixed reactions to Neville’s appointment. I think this is a wonderful football club. “It’s up to us to meet their demands”.
