Johnson, Arizona defense thrive in 27-3 win over Rams
Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald (back) and cornerback Lamarcus Joyner (20) team up to sack Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer on Sunday in St. Louis.

LOUIS (AP) _ Replacement running backs David Johnson and Kerwynn Williams scored a touchdown apiece and the Arizona Cardinals stuffed the punchless St. Louis Rams 27-3 on Sunday.
“One of the biggest games I remember from Carson with the Bengals was the playoff game against the Steelers when he hurt his knee”, Rudolph said Monday about the game in January 2006.
The story of the week was how would rookie third-round pick David Johnson react to being thrust into the starting role and the top back on the depth chart, and, could he hold on to the ball.
Johnson, a rookie, had 99 yards on 22 carries in his first career start and caught one of Palmer’s two TD passes as Arizona rolled up 524 yards.
Sometimes trends are telling: the Seahawks had struggled early in the season and picked it up recently on offense-scoring more 30 points in the three previous games and then 35 against Minnesota. However, Johnson is now out for the season and it wasn’t holdover Andre Ellington that stepped up for the team. He admitted to being nervous – but just the first series.
– Safety Rashad Johnson gets interception No. 5, leading the team, on great recognition on a deep route.
I don’t trust the Vikings, as they’re way too inconsistent and aren’t getting much production from their quarterback.
The Cardinals’ coaching staff spent long nights last Thursday, Friday and Saturday working on the game plan.
“That’s going to be new to me”, he said.
Palmer completed 26 of 40 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. The Vikings were outgained 433-125 in a game that was all but over when the Seahawks took a 21-0 lead late in the second quarter.
The St. Louis Rams lost – at home – today to the Arizona Cardinals.
With a team-high eight catches for 55 yards, Fitzgerald finished with 1,000 catches and also secured his seventh season with 1,000 yards receiving and his first since 2011. In the Vikings’ four losses this season, Peterson has averaged 11 carries for 43 yards a game.
Even after that effort, the Cardinals still believe they can be better. “To be here for that long and see that complete transformation, it makes you feel proud to be a part of it”.
The Cardinals defense, ranked fourth overall with 316.8 yards allowed per game, kept the one-dimensional Rams’ offense to only 212 yards and silenced their quieted their rushing attack to just 66 yards.
Fisher said Keenum was “good enough to be the two, he just didn’t have the reps”. “I felt that he was taking off running and I didn’t let go until I heard the whistle”.
“It’s kind of a broken record thing with the offense”, Fisher said.
Asked how he was feeling, Palmer said, “like we just got done playing”.
– The Cardinals had four drives of at least 80 yards. You have less time to watch them. Williams fumbled a kickoff out of bounds at the 2-yard line.
But on third-and-3 from the Arizona 9, Big Red wide receiver Michael Floyd outleaped Janoris Jenkins on a 50-50 ball for a 31-yard gain down the right sideline.
The Rams were shut out in the first half for the second time this season.
Gabbert scrambled 44 yards untouched through the middle for his first career touchdown run with 1:42 left, after some encouragement from Tomsula. Rams TE Lance Kendricks also was ruled out late with a concussion. Jenkins was evaluated twice, both times on hits from teammates, and didn’t recover from blow delivered by Mark Barron on Johnson’s 10-yard TD catch with 5:51 to go in the third.

Meanwhile, the Rams (4-8) couldn’t find much to boast about, save for a 35-yard field goal by placekicker Zach Hocker in the third quarter.
