Unwrapping the part of the titular monster in Universal’s upcoming reboot of THE MUMMY has been a long and arduous process. How do we know?

New reports suggest that rising Kingsman: The Secret Service star Sofia Boutella has signed on to terrorize the world as the iconic monster. Boutella would star alongside Cruise in the action-adventure-horror film, which, unlike the Brendan Fraser films, is expected to take place primarily in modern day.

Sofia Boutella was born on April 6, 1982 in Algeria.

THR broke the Mummy Sofia Boutella news. Other details on The Mummy script, by Jon Spaihts, are still wrapped up in bandages.

Let’s hear it for a gender-bent version of the Mummy. It has a release date of March 24, 2017. Boutella follows Boris Karloff, who played the Mummy in the 1932 movie, and Arnold Vosloo, who played him in the 1999 remake and its sequel. If deals get worked out, she would co-star alongside Tom Cruise, who was reported to be in talks for a role in the movie at the end of last month. It’s also meant to be a part of a shared cinematic universe between the classic Universal monsters like The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, and Dracula.

She’s since landed roles in “Star Trek Beyond” and “The Coldest City” with Charlize Theron, and now she’s bagged what could be her biggest role yet.
