Israel sentences female Palestinian lawmaker to 15 months

Since October 1, nearly daily attacks and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers have killed 112 on the Palestinian side, 17 Israelis, an American and an Eritrean.

A shipment of several thousand dolls arriving in Israel for later re-shipment to Palestinian recipients has been diverted and confiscated because they possibly could be used as an incitement to violence, according to officials.

The deputy minister, perhaps alluding to the breakdown in official Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, added that “we can not conduct an open dialogue with our neighbors until a drastic change is made in the Palestinian education system, which, as of now, only plants the seeds of fear and hate in its youth”.

Later the same day, dozens of Israeli soldiers ransacked Skafi’s home in East Jerusalem’s Beit Hanina district.

In the West Bank town of Hebron on Monday, paramilitary police fatally shot a Palestinian after he stabbed and critically injured an Israeli, police and hospital sources said. She has criticized the Palestinian Authority for its security cooperation with Israel, which has continued even during months of Israeli-Palestinian fighting.

At least 89 of those slain were killed “in cold blood”, according to the ministry.

Jarrar is vice-chairwoman of the Palestinian prisoner advocacy group Addameer, which said the charges against her are “vengeful, arbitrary and political, with an aim to punish [Jarrar] her for her political opinions and activism for Palestinian human rights”.

The PFLP also condemned the recent jailing of party MP Khalida Jarrar as “tyrannical and part of the ongoing Israeli terrorism against the Palestinian people”.

It follows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ‘s launched a heavy-handed crackdown on sectarian violence in the wake of a series of killings in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. Likewise, the Central Committee called to apply the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention to the lands of the state of Palestine (the West Bank and the Gaza Strip), particularly with regard to the protection of citizens in wartime.

Alleged attacks on Israelis have mainly been carried out by young Palestinians – many of whom have used improvised weapons, such as kitchen knives or vehicles – rather than organized resistance groups.
