San Francisco police chief wants to arm officers with Tasers
“I have directed Chief Suhr to take specific, immediate action to ensure they have more options to resolve situations with the minimum use of force”, said Lee.

It’s worth noting that, according to the Ex, “three of the officers on scene at the Woods shooting were trained in Crisis Intervention Training…which means they have knowledge of de-escalation techniques”.
“We don’t want to put out any tool without any training”, Suhr told the Ex. “That’s what we’re doing right now”.
Although KQED’s analysis is based on the same video Suhr used during Friday night’s community meeting, there are potential technical issues with the images and sound that should be kept in mind when viewing it. For instance, there is no guarantee that the audio and video are in ideal synchronization.
“You don’t need a shield, you need sense”, chapter President Amos Brown said.
Once again, the San Francisco Police Department has contributed to the systemic and historic epidemic of unnecessary police violence in communities of color. For instance, neither of the videos we display in the split screen above depict the events that led to the confrontation and fatal shooting.
Accordingly, we recognize that this shooting is not a random act by the San Francisco Police Department, but only the most recent in a long line of similar occurrences. It appears that in the early seconds of the videos, Woods may be reacting to being struck by shotgun-fired beanbags – but we can’t say for sure. “I found it very upsetting, as many did, and it raised a number of questions”. The San Francisco district attorney’s office also investigates police shootings.
We, as concerned law students at the University of San Francisco, are outraged at the officers of the San Francisco Police Department who shot and killed Mario Woods without justification. “The incidents are stacking up”, San Francisco public defender Jeff Adachi said.
Police Commissioner Joe Marshal assured a crowd at meeting late Monday hosted by the NAACP at the Third Baptist Church in San Francisco that reforms are coming.

The meeting quickly devolved into cries of “bull-!” from community members. The Police Commission plans to discuss the overall use of force policy at its meeting this Wednesday, and the Mayor has requested a “thorough review” of policies relating to use of force. The conference was also attended by Suhr, who had previously withdrawn a proposal of adding Tasers to the department’s arsenal two years ago amid opposition from the police commission. Police fired after it appeared the San Francisco man was approaching an officer, Andraychak said.
