United crash out of Champions League

The UEFA Champions league and Premier league manager opened up recently about his admiration of the Premier League and his belief that Manchester United is a destination of choice for all football managers.

Wolfsburg were well on top but somehow found themselves behind in the 10th minute.

“It was a insane match”, said Van Gaal.

Will feel he could have done more to keep out Naldo’s volley but, aside from one moment when he almost got caught out following his decision to rush out and deal with a long ball, the goalkeeper showed why he is one of the best around with several superb saves.

United took the lead against Wolfsburg and levelled in the second half to spark some hope but Van Gaal wasn’t happy with United’s defence. United are organised and hard to beat.

A Champions League decider is a chance for someone to make a name for himself.

“It is clear that for a certain period of time, while he is rebuilding the team, we have to accept playing in a certain way which perhaps isn’t the Manchester United way”.

Van Gaal however tried to see some positives from the defeat: “The last matches we played we didn’t score goals, but now we have scored goals“.

“We were not so lucky in a match today with the decisions of the referee, but also in the first match we were lucky with the decision of that referee”.

“I had to close the channels for Vardy and Okazaki, and that was always a reason, and we also had one man more in midfield so we had a lot of space and, because of that, we dominated the game”.

“That is, in my opinion, different as you have to prove as a club, as a team and as player that you can continue – and that’s why it is very important to beat the opponent”.

“We fought for the win…but we couldn’t do more that we have done”.

Raheem Sterling netted in the 80th and 81st minutes, and Wilfried Bony scored in the 85th to spark Manchester City’s late turnaround in a 4-2 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Vietto passed for midfielder Saul Niguez to convert Atletico Madrid’s aggressive start into a goal after half an hour, before he added a strike of his own early in the second half.

Despite having a rich European history and a multi-million pound squad, the odds seem to be stacked against United.

Van Gaal may have welcomed the change of scenery initially, after his side was recently booed by home fans.

Sterling had a harsh introduction as he was caught in the chest by the boot of Havard Nordtveit but was soon back on his feet and linking nicely with Kevin De Bruyne and Silva in a fluid attacking trio.
