No Drama Playoff: Choice Committee Has It Straightforward This Time

For those who have been watching the Spartans football program in recent years, this comes as no surprise. The Tigers blew out OU, 40-6, in that contest.

For years there has been an uproar relating to the rankings of teams.

Mayfield will be challenged by Clemson’s defense, which ranks seventh nationally.

The committee got it right, just as they got it right past year.

“And that’s the way we try to play”.

“We have a lot of oranges down here”, Poms said. But this is a different Sooner team, led by quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Oklahoma, whose only defeat came at Texas, 24-17 on October 10, is 11-1 and has won seven consecutive games, including victories against TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma State. It will be interesting to hear the cries for more teams in the playoff after Tuesday when the final four are announced.

It’s the first time the Spartans have been No. 1 since a three-week stint early in the 2013-14 season. “You do keep in the back of your mind the score past year and how we went out. (But) we have our own motivation outside of (revenge)”. If you’re a Tide fan of any age, take a moment to re-watch this game so you can burn his image into your head. Clemson is looking for its first national championship since 1981.

Though the Playoff selection committee ranked Oklahoma No. 4, committee chairman Jeff Long said at least some committee members felt like the Sooners “could be the No. 1 team in the country”. OU has won 12 of those contests but lost their last appearance, a 55-19 setback to USC.

Stanford running back Christian McCaffery made an intriguing case for the award as he capped a record-breaking season with a 41-22 victory over USC in the Pac-12 title game. Bob Stoops is 8-8 in the postseason.

The winners of the Orange Bowl and the Cotton Bowl will play in the national championship on January 11. No. 2 Alabama will play No. 3 Michigan State at the Cotton Bowl in the nightcap of the December 31 doubleheader. A Hail Mary to beat Wisconsin a year later. Joining Alabama and Ole Miss in the postseason are Florida (Citrus Bowl vs. Michigan), Tennessee (Outback Bowl vs. Northwestern), Georgia (TaxSlayer Bowl vs. Penn State), LSU (Texas Bowl vs. Texas Tech), Texas A&M (Music City Bowl vs. Louisville), Mississippi State (Belk Bowl vs. N.C. State), Arkansas (Liberty Bowl vs. Kansas State) and Auburn (Birmingham Bowl vs. Memphis). If that happens, it sets up a 2014 Sugar Bowl rematch.

“Great players are at their best in crunch time and you rise to the occasion, and that’s what he’s done all year long for this team”, Swinney said.

Dakwa Nichols, a reserve running back at N.C. State, and the rest of his teammates won’t have to travel far for their bowl game this month.

IN (6-3) still received votes for this week’s Coaches Poll despite a 20-point loss at Duke last week.

Playing as an independent team while battling injury concerns, Notre Dame managed to nab itself a solid bowl game to highlight their high-level of play. “We’ve got exactly the opportunity that we’ve worked so hard for since last February”. For those of us who didn’t mind the BCS, that solution was acceptable because it still meant that every regular-season game had meaning.

“I do think it was a good experience for us because it was a combination of players used to going to bowl games…but we’d never really went to a bowl game that was a playoff game, and I’m not sure we managed that exactly the way we should have”, UA coach Nick Saban said.
