Thibaut Courtois: Chelsea must bounce back from Bournemouth defeat

Schurrle can pile plenty of misery on another Premier League club on Tuesday, by knocking Manchester United out with a win at the Volkswagen Arena.

However, Courtois says the belief is still there in the squad.

At times you couldn’t believe your eyes as Harry After, Dan Gosling, Junior Stanislas and Josh King cut the Blues apart during that first period with moves to fashion shooting opportunities.

Speaking after the match, Mourinho suggested that a top six finish could well be beyond his side this season after suffering their eighth loss in the league this season, but the Champions League may not be out of reach just yet.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed his former rival Jose Mourinho to steer Chelsea out of the crisis now gripping their season.

Chelsea, who are 14th in the Premier League with only four wins from 15 matches, are likely to have captain John Terry back after injury. “When it’s 0-0 after 80 minutes they were more nervous than us because we don’t expect anything out of these games really”. “I know the guy and I know the work he has done in football and I can’t see it lasting long”.

The Blues were on the wrong end of two big decisions as they were denied a penalty and the visitors scoring from an offside position.

Chelsea did have one penalty appeal turned down after Simon Francis appeared to handle the ball while sliding in to block a cross, yet that was about as good as it got for the home side. I am concerned. I was concerned before this game because I am not happy with the position. “The creation is collective, but the finishing is something very individual and at this moment we’re not having that”.

Thibaut Courtois has expressed mixed emotions upon his return to first-team action for Chelsea following three months on the sidelines in the 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth on 5 December.

And a report in The Times newspaper on Monday claimed Mourinho’s job will be under threat if they fail to progress in the Champions League this week, despite a vote of confidence from the board back in October.

“In the second half we did more than enough to score and to win”.

The last of Liverpool’s championship victories came prior to the Premier League’s formation but, after hiring Klopp in October and losing just two of their 12 games since, Ferguson is confident the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss will transform the Merseysiders’ fortunes.
