Justin was infamously beaten in the Best New Artist category by jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding in 2011, and in the same year, his album My World 2.0, lost out to Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster in the Best Pop Vocal Album genre. Last year Ludwig won three, including Album of the Year for “Morning Phase” by Beck.

As excited as I am for Kendrick Lamar and select nominees for the 2016 Grammy Awards, I don’t trust its major voting bloc – old, white men – to truly get it right.

For those looking for a “Swift vs. Lamar” narrative, however, things aren’t so simple: the Best Pop Group/Duo Performance and Best Music Video nominees include their collaboration “Bad Blood”. Taylor Swift is nominated for 1989. “That being said, what a wonderful treat to be recognized by your peers for the work that you have done”, Stapleton said in an interview with The Associated Press by phone on Monday. The 2016 Grammy Awards will be doled out at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles February 15, the day before his 26 birthday. No host is announced yet. Other album-of-the-year nominees are Alabama Shakes for “Sound & Color” and veteran country songwriter Chris Stapleton for his debut album, “Traveller”. Little Big Town also helped country music return to top Grammy categories with “Girl Crush, ” which is up for song of the year (the nomination goes to the songs writers, Lori McKenna, Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose).

Swift and The Weeknd, the rising Canadian R&B star, followed Lamar with seven nominations each. His hit from the “Fifty Shades of Grey” soundtrack – “Earned It” – garnered nominations for best R&B performance, R&B song and song written for visual media. But, T-Swift is rumored to be feeling a certain type of way about Lamar receiving more Grammy nominations than she did.

What’s amusing is that it’s the same academy that snubbed Kendrick of actually winning the honors just two years ago, presumably because either the judges felt the album wasn’t commercial enough or they just weren’t hip.

“Artists are pushing boundaries in exciting ways, making it an exceptionally strong year for music”, he said in a statement.

Ronson and Mars should take this, but there is a lot of competition from the lady who – other than Adele – owns the music world.

Britain’s Adele, who won six Grammys for her 2011 album “21”, was not eligible this year because her record-breaking new release “25”, was issued too late for consideration.
