Afterwards clashes erupted at Aida, another camp in Bethlehem, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported. Others have been shot dead during clashes with Israeli security forces.
An Israeli army spokesperson had no information of his death, but said that Israeli soldiers had opened fire after Palestinians threw “pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails” at them.
And on Sunday, another young Palestinian – Amer Skafi, 21 – was killed by Israeli forces after allegedly carrying out a vehicular attack that left three Israelis injured in Jerusalem’s Romema neighborhood, which has recently seen an upsurge in violence following a period of relative calm.
The sources said the positioning of the shot, as well as the type of bullet used, clearly indicates that Israeli forces shot at Shahin with every intention to kill.
The PFLP also condemned the recent jailing of party MP Khalida Jarrar as “tyrannical and part of the ongoing Israeli terrorism against the Palestinian people”.
In east Jerusalem, an American tourist was lightly wounded by stonethrowers on Tuesday.
Tensions have also been stoked by Palestinian frustration over a peacemaking process deadlocked since early 2014.
Officials at the Haifa port seized a shipment of thousands of plush dolls with raised hands holding toy rocks. Israeli military said it has sentenced Jarrear to 15 months in prison after convicting her of belonging to an illegal organization and incitement.
“These were dolls in the colours of the Palestinian flag and bearing the slogans “Jerusalem is for us” and “Jerusalem we are coming”, the statement said.
