Bowling Green hires Texas Tech assistant Mike Jinks as head coach

Jinks, a former Texas high school football coach at Cibolo Steele, had been linked to several coaching vacancies in recent weeks; including the formerly open position at the University of North Texas, as well as the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Bowling Green is now slated to be the the Mid-America Conference representative in the GoDaddy Bowl on December 23rd when they face off against Georgia Southern in Mobile, Alabama. He’s a quality guy. He just has the ability to get along with everybody. “I think that’s a real key for a head coach”.
“Coach Jinks is one of the finest men and coaches I have ever worked with, and it was an honor having him on our staff”, Kingsbury said in a BG release. “Even back then, he was a guy that people gravitated toward”.
Sean Lewis has changed his twitter profile to indicate he is now a coach for the Orange, while the Syracuse Post-Standard reports that Kim McCloud, Mike Lynch, Tom Kaufman, and Nick Monroe already are contacting recruits on behalf of Syracuse. Jinks received $215,000 in salary at Texas Tech last season. Babers had a base salary of $400,000 at BG with incentives that maxed out at $182,500.

Before joining Kliff Kingsbury’s staff at Texas Tech, Jinks spent 16 years coaching at the high school level, including eight as a head coach.
