Ted Cruz leading over Trump, Carson in Iowa
“We don’t need another fast-talking, well-meaning freshman USA senator trying to run the government”. “I am focused on my policies and the solutions that I am proposing to the real problems of this country”, Cruz replied. The one thing that is for certain is that it is bad news for Dr. Ben Carson. Carson having 32 points in that poll may have been questionable at that time, but Loras College around the same time polled him at 31%, KBUR at 28%. In November’s poll, 13% said Trump would do the best job on social issues, that’s risen to 19%.

Along with other GOP candidates for president, Cruz would not join Donald Trump in saying that Muslim immigration to the USA should be shut down.
So the field, according to Monmouth, looks like this.
“I like and respect Donald Trump, I continue to like and respect Donald Trump”. Jeb Bush – 6% 6.
“Our choice is Gov. Chris Christie”. Rick Santorum – 1% 12.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who has emerged as Trump’s biggest rival in the first caucus state of Iowa, was in sixth place with 6 percent.
Trump is next in evangelical support with 18 percent.
Nine percent said Christie was best able to handle ISIS, behind Trump with 33 percent and Bush with 11 percent. “There is no doubt that Donald Trump would be a tremendously effective negotiator to help us open up foreign markets”.
This game could go on for months, and probably will. Which is why, even at the base of Mount Washington, it’s hard to tell the difference between gust and wind. That survey found Cruz garnering 24% support among Republican voters in the state to Trump’s 19%.
Carson has not been this low in the polls since early September when the race was a jumbled mess of candidates seeking to break out and challenge the front-running Trump. (Tie) Jim Gilmore, Graham and Pataki – 0%.
Thirty percent of Evangelical voters, which make up half of GOP voters in Iowa, now support Cruz.
For his part, King says he hopes that his favorite presidential candidate in this election cycle can sustain his momentum. Clinton could face Cruz, or Rubio, or Trump.
Trump supporters are also proving to be a loyal bunch. What moved Trump to the top of the polls and keeps him there is his utter dominance of the information environment.
The Monmouth poll interviewed a sample drawn from registered voter lists that primarily comprised those who had voted in state-level Republican primary elections in previous election years. Its margin of error was plus or minus 2 percentage points. That isn’t very significant.

Iowa allows participants in the caucuses to register at any time before the caucus, including on-site just before it begins.
