‘Pro-Biafra Protests Will Stop For Now’ – Nnamdi Kanu

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has said it is not in support of the use of violence by Biafra protesters but urged President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the issue of the marginalization of the Igbo people.

The groups in a joint resolution on Tuesday resolved to halt demonstrations and protests to pave way for what they called the much-published dialogue on Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

While announcing the suspension of the Biafra protests in the South-East, the National Secretary of MASSOB, Ugwuoke Ibem and the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said Uwazuruike has deviated, adding that he has lost touch with reality.

“Uwazuruike is a drowning man who is living on yesterday shadow. And at a time like this when we are hoping for referendum on the issue of Biafara, the same people they want to liberate may vote against realisation of the sovereign state of Biafara due to the hardship they had suffered under (IPOB’s) reign of violence”, Uwazuruike said.

It was learnt that the over five hours meeting, which looked deeply into the agitations by the various pro-Biafra groups agreed that the protests arose following the continued marginalization of Ndigbo in the scheme of things, agreeing however, that the arrest and detention of Kanu became the tonic that opened up the bottled anger.

The federal government, however filed a counter-affidavit, explaining why he will not been released, despite the clear orders of the court. It has also unsteadied the group.

The accused who were brought to court were later driven back to prison custody.

They warned that Nigeria was sliding towards a unsafe part with the detention of Kanu, as they protested around the Ariaria International market junction on the Enugu-Port Harcourt road in Aba. It is either they release him or face our wrath.

“We can’t understand why the government is still detaining Kanu since he has been granted bail”.

We feel seriously that the release of Kanu will go a long way to check the protests.

The protest caused a gridlock on the road.
