Muhammad Ali criticises Donald Trump over call to ban Muslims

The former secretary of state said Donald Trump is instead supplying ISIS “with new propaganda”. “Israel respects all religions and diligently guards the rights of its citizens”, a statement from Netanyahu’s office said.

Trump, who leads opinion polls in the Republican nominating race, on Monday called for blocking Muslims, including would-be immigrants, students and tourists, from entering the country following last week’s deadly shootings in California by two Muslims who authorities said were radicalized.

But she said those in other countries can confuse what a candidate says with actual USA foreign policy.

But the visit by Trump is different.

For Clinton, the fight against terrorism and the so-called Islamic State “cannot be an American fight” and she supports the resettlement plan for refugees into the U.S.

Ali, who has since converted to Sunni Islam, also lashed out against the recent ISIL-directed or inspired terrorist attacks, saying “there is nothing Islamic about killing innocent people in Paris, San Bernardino, or anywhere else in the world”. Yet he has been careful to differentiate between extremist groups and the Muslim religion in general.

Almost one-fifth of Israel’s population is Muslim.

He had been appointed as “GlobalScot” ambassador by former First Minister Jack McConnell in 2006, but, according to the BBC, Scottish officials said Trump’s recent remarks show he is “no longer fit to be a business ambassador for Scotland”.

Opposition lawmaker Michal Rozin of the dovish Meretz party on Wednesday initiated a petition urging Netanyahu to condemn Trump’s “racist” comments and to cancel the meeting unless he retracts them.

Around 300,000 people have now signed the petition. “In our country, we don’t wear djellaba clothing, we don’t wear a veil and we don’t impose cathedral-sized mosques”, she said. “Mr. Trump, with whom do you stand?” the editorial concludes. These Republicans accepted the billionaire businessman’s dominance and durability, and just how damned they were, knowing their rebuttals would only strengthen his support.

“That is the best way to deal with Donald Trump and his views rather than trying to ban presidential candidates”.

Though he didn’t lay out specifics, Trump said he’d know within six months of taking office whether he would be able to broker a peace deal, adding that the chances for a durable resolution rest with Israel. “I’m going to Israel, I’m not saying who I’m meeting with”. Without at least halving the field, there is no mathematic possibility of besting Trump.

The slight problem for Johnson, in his political capacity, is that the American Freedom Party has its own presidential candidate.

“I would do it, but it would be unlikely that I would be approved by the Senate”, he said.

Donald Trump has weathered scorn from both sides of the American political aisle as well as condemnation from overseas after his call for a temporary ban on all Muslim travelers to the United States.

Trump said the comparisons, which have become increasingly direct, did not upset him. The bitter lessons of Romney’s 2012 visit add to the difficulties.
