United in for Europa League shock – Pochettino

Louis van Gaal insists Manchester United have shown improvement under his management despite crashing out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

A footballer, whose dribbling and game-breaking talent made him man of the match in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph two months before joining United, seemed nearly instantly to make Van Gaal suspicious of these same abilities.

The goalless Premier League draw – United’s fourth of the season – means only former United manager Lal Hilditch has a higher percentage of 0-0 draws than Van Gaal.

He still gave it a try, though, by saying that “facts” proved United was better than last season because the team had gone further in the League Cup – to the third round – and had reached the group stage of the Champions League after missing out on Europe entirely last season.

The 64-year-old delivered on the first of those two targets, which is why the uninspiring performances of last season were generally accepted by the club’s supporters.

“If you look at the Premier League, everyone talks about how it affects it when you play on the Thursday and the Sunday but for me, you look at the January transfer window”. We scored the goals, then they are cancelling (out our) goals.

“It was a insane match”, Van Gaal said.

“For sure Manchester United will feel very disappointed after last night because they had the possibility to go into the next round”, Pochettino said on Wednesday.

“They can rest and prepare for the Champions League in the best condition”.

“I told [my team-mate] Dante before the match that I would be moving towards the near post – I usually remain in the centre for set pieces”, Naldo explained of his first goal in the 13th minute.

BT anchor Gary Lineker asked the question: “Are Manchester United perhaps on the brink of becoming Liverpool after all that phenomenal success over a period of time?”. He glided past Bastian Schweinsteiger and two more United players while playing a one-two with Max Kruse before squaring to Vierinha and he slotted the ball in from close range. Well we know Van Gaal is more than capable of swaying world class talents, they might have not always worked but still bringing in Di Maria, Falcao and Schweinsteiger proves that big players want to play under Van Gaal, due to his major successes in previous jobs.

“Five victories in a row, we are on a good run and need to continue like this”, said Ronaldo.

The highlighted result on Tuesday was Manchester United’s 3-2 defeat at Wolfsburg, which ultimately led to them crashing out of the tournament. “I was in a squad that went into the Europa League (in 2011) and it’s an embarrassment”.
