Lamar leads Grammy nominations
Behind Lamar is The Weeknd tied pop mega-star Taylor Swift with seven nominations.

The 2013 awards saw her win Best Pop Solo Performance and her total Grammy wins came to ten when her James Bond theme song Skyfall took out Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards in 2014.
“There’s a broad spectrum and certainly it shows there’s been quite a bit of wonderful and excellent recordings in the a year ago”, Recording Academy CEO Neil Portow said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Taylor Swift’s 1989 and the Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness, both up for the coveted album of the year award, are huge commercial hits that use familiar sonic elements (including textures lifted from 1980s-era pop and R&B) to tell vivid personal stories set in an age of digital distraction.
There are only five categories in which mastering engineers can win Grammy Awards. That many nods makes Kendrick Lamar the most nominated rapper for any Grammy year and second overall to Michael Jackson, who once netted 12 nods in a single year.
In the other major categories, Lamar, Swift and the Weeknd also fared well, though Swift was the only performer to be nominated for album, song and record of the year.
Then there was that other thing that we only sort-of knew: To Pimp a Butterfly, a cerebral and virtuosic offering from California rapper Kendrick Lamar, had been nominated for album of the year, too.
Alabama Shakes, fronted by singer Brittany Howard, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts with “Sound & Color” earlier this year, and the album was met with critical acclaim – much like the band’s 2012 debut, “Boys & Girls”.
But Adele wasn’t snubbed, she was simply ineligible.
Lamar is the leading nominee with 11, followed by Swift and the Weeknd, who earned seven nominations each.
Full disclosure: I forgot Black Messiah ever happened and proceeded to go back to D’Angelo’s first two studio albums and live EP. However, “Really Love” is a really nice song despite one barely understanding what in the hell he’s saying. Last year Ludwig won three, including Album of the Year for “Morning Phase” by Beck.
The bets are on Lamar picking up song of the year with “Alright”, which should beat out Swift’s “Blank Space”.
Meanwhile, sitarist Anoushka Shankar and Amy directorAsif Kapadia are among the Indian origin names featuring in the nominees list at the 58th Grammy awards, which were announced in Los Angeles on Monday.
However, there are some astonishing exclusions in the Grammy nominations 2016 list.
Yet in examining Adele’s prospects for next year’s awards ceremony, it’s also important to look at non-Adele records that were in a similar position going into previous ceremonies.
Stay on topic – This helps keep the thread focused on the discussion at hand. And if you’ve noticed, Omarion is none too pleased over “Post To Be” being overlooked.
