Pebble Classic/Steel smartwatches to receive Timeline UI update

In the Kickstarter for the Pebble Time, the company promised customers with older models that they would receive the upgrade, around the same time as it arrives on the Pebble Time, Time Steel, and Time Round. Featuring the timeline interface to organize your past, present, and future, 3.0 is all about delivering the best ways to get things done from your wrist.

When Pebble announced its new Pebble Time watches and (later on) the Pebble Time Round, it also released a brand new operating system for its popular wearable.

The 3.0 version of Pebble’s OS first launched on the newer Pebble Time lineup in February.

The company wrote: “Bringing Pebble Time’s 3.0 software to non-Time watches has been one of the most challenging projects we’ve tackled”. You can follow these instructions to update your Pebble.

For now, the beta version of Pebble Firmware 3.8 is available only to a few select Android users who get accepted into the beta testing program. Only a limited number of users will be chosen for the beta test, but the full rollout is supposed to begin sometime later this month so it won’t be long before most of if not all users are on the new firmware and taking advantage of the benefits of Pebble’s new Timeline UI.

If you’d like to test the update, which is Firmware 3.8, you’ll need to request to join the Timeline for Pebble Classic Beta Group. This will install the new firmware to their Pebble Classic or Pebble Steel.

Timeline also allows for the expansion of these alerts within standalone apps. This makes the interface more organized without having to open multiple apps.
