Milner would ‘run through a brick wall’ for Rodgers

James Milner is looking to use his experience to help the less experienced players at Liverpool.

Milner was signed by City in August 2010 after an impressive season operating in central midfield for Aston Villa.

He’ll offer Liverpool a whole variety of options so it comes as no surprise to hear that Brendan Rodgers pushed hard for the Englishman’s signature this summer.

Although Milner was well thought of and claimed every domestic trophy, he is conscious that time is ticking on his career.

Milner said: “The manager has spoken to me about that and he sees I can do that role”.

“There were times when I felt like I could have done a job in there, but the manager makes the decision and it’s no good for the team if I’m kicking up a fuss”. “Who knows?”

As well as trying to fill the midfield void left by Steven Gerrard’s departure to LA Galaxy, Milner also knows he has to instantly become a leader in the Liverpool dressing room. However, when we come to it; getting to finals and things like that, the default was for me not to play.

“When I’m older I want to look back and say that I became the best player I could”. I could have easily stayed at City and been there another four to five years, being around the club, helping us win things.

“I have known Sean a long time and played against his teams”.

“I had a lot of conversations with the hierarchy at City and they never said a bad word about me”.

“They [City] saw me as a big part of the club”, Milner said.

“That role of filling in, more when other people aren’t available, playing all over the field, I don’t think it lets you show your best football”. He will come into the Premier League, it takes a bit of time to adapt. The fans were awesome with me at City and that made it very tough for me as well.

Highly-rated Brazilian front-man Roberto Firmino has already made the switch to the Premier League club in recent weeks, yet it seems Brendan Rodgers’ Bundesliga targets simply don’t end there with Germany and Borussia Dortmund star, Marco Reus, also being looked at by the Reds this summer for a hefty fee of around £46m.
