Happy Holidays Manhattan! Amazon launches 1-hour booze delivery service

This marks the second city where Amazon is allowed to deliver alcohol to its customers; the first being its own hometown Seattle.

The only real difference is that Amazon is using permitted “delivery service providers” for alcohol orders in NY, according to an Amazon spokeswoman.

Amazon has expanded its Prime Now service dramatically since it launched a year ago in Manhattan.

Amazon announced that it has added over 4,000 new items to its Prime Now same-day service. Back then, it was not clear whether the Prime Now delivery service for adult beverages would be only for Seattle or if it would be expanding to other locations.

The Prime Now service is expensive for Amazon to operate, but the company believes the on-demand nature of it eliminates one of the few remaining advantages that brick-and-mortar stores have over the online retail giant.

With that, Amazon also gave us a look at some of the most popular items being ordered around the country. When the New York Post attempted to place a beer order at six a.m. this morning, its reviewer was told that delivery might take as long as four hours. Starting today, Eataly is being added to the lineup of local stores offered in Manhattan and Prime Now Chicago is adding local store delivery from Plum Market, Sprinkles Cupcakes and My Fit Foods. Customer reviews, 1-Click shopping, personalized recommendations, Prime, Fulfillment by Amazon, AWS, Kindle Direct Publishing, Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Echo, and Alexa are some of the products and services pioneered by Amazon. In fact, people have a choice: Pay $8 for one-hour delivery, or pick two-hour delivery for no added cost. Think of that extra hour wait time as a way of proving to yourself you’re not an alcoholic.
