The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place January 10, 2016.

Zander Lehmann and Jason Reitman: “Thank you Hulu for taking a chance on such a unique comedy and thank you to the HFPA for rewarding the chance they took on us”.
The nominees for best motion picture drama: “Carol, ” “Mad Max: Fury Road, ” “The Revenant, ” “Room”, and “Spotlight”.
The most nominations for any show was three, scored by USA’s quirky thriller “Mr. Robot” along with ABC’s prestige drama “American Crime”, FX’s “Fargo”, Starz’ “Outlander”, PBS’ miniseries “Wolf Hall” and the much-honored Amazon comedy “Transparent”. They’re all trying for the supporting role nods.
And that’s probably because none of the actors in the film are being campaigned for lead role nominations.
That said, the comedy film category is not almost as crowded as the drama one, so that’s one way to get your film nominated. Stars Christian Bale and Steve Carell both picked up best actor nominations for the comedy about the financial collapse.
In an awards season that has so far failed to produce a definite heavyweight, Tom McCarthy’s acclaimed Boston Globe drama “Spotlight” came into the Globe nominations as the Oscar favorite.
The great Lily Tomlin of Grace and Frankie was nominated for Best Actress in a TV series, Comedy. Another noticeable snub came in the lack of nominations for any of the actors in the Best Picture-nominated Spotlight, which was (and perhaps still is) expected to be a pretty heavy hitter come Oscar season.
The Globes’ lead actor group options Bryan Cranston for “Trumbo”, Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Revenant”, Michael Fassbender for “Steve Jobs”, Eddie Redmayne for “The Danish Girl” and Will Smith for “Concussion”. Now comedy nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards are at least respectable (“The Big Short” and “Joy”) or slightly respectable (“Trainwreck” and “Spy”), and actors are (mostly) lauded for the performances for which they’re nominated.
– Actress, Drama: Cate Blanchett, “Carol”; Brie Larson, “Room”; Rooney Mara, “Carol”; Saoirse Ronan, “Brooklyn”; Alicia Vikander, “The Danish Girl”.
The nominees for best supporting actor are Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies”), Sylvester Stallone (“Creed”), Idris Elba (“Beasts of No Nation”), Paul Dano (“Love and Mercy”) and Michael Shannon (“99 Homes”).
On the TV side of things, streaming seems to be the real victor right off the bat, with Netflix receiving more nominations than HBO for the first time, and Hulu and Amazon also pulling some major nominations.
“Trumbo” also brought Helen Mirren, the Oscar-winning British actress and former New Orleans resident, a best supporting actress nomination for her portrayal of gossip columnist and Trumbo nemesis Hedda Hopper.
The situation for dramas on network TV is slightly better, although not by much.
The Globes tend to favor big movies stories over character actresses, but Rampling’s lack of love from the SAG and Hollywood Foreign Press means she’ll have to campaign extra hard to get on the Academy’s radar for her performance as an elderly woman who comes to the terms with the truth of her marriage. The pic and director George Miller got nominations, but the past Oscar victor deserved recognition.
Lady Gaga was thrilled with her nomination as best actress in a limited series for her performance in “American Horror Story: Hotel”.

In fairness, Thursday morning’s Golden Globe nominations are a harbinger of what’s already happening on television, as the revolution in when, where, what, and how we watch continues.
