Salman Khan walks free from 2002 hit and run case

Bollywood megastar Salman Khan was acquitted of all charges in the September 28, 2002, accident case by the Bombay High Court here on Thursday.
This is definitely going to send the Bollywood and other film industry celebrities as well as the fans of Salman Khan in a festive mood.
The latest update on the case is that, today, the Bombay High Court has acquitted Salman Khan of all the criminal charges.
The lower court found Khan guilty of ramming his vehicle into a group of homeless people who were sleeping at the sidewalk near a Mumbai bakery.

After a long battle, Salman Khan was finally acquitted of all charges against him in the infamous 2002 hit and run case.
Salman Khan’s driver Ashok Singh also appeared before the court and said it was he, and not the actor, behind the wheels of the SUV on the night of the incident.
The major relief for Salman came seven months the trial court convicted him in the case and awarded him five-year sentence. “It was highlighted by various the media and various agencies related to them”, said Justice Joshi.
Delivering the much-awaited verdict, Justice A.R. Joshi said that the actor “cannot be convicted” on the basis of the evidence produced by the prosecution in the 13-year-old case and trial.
On hearing the verdict, Salman broke down.
Session court held that the culpable homicide charge was in fact applicable.
The hight court questioning the reliability of the key evidence -including the testimony from a policeman who has since died. In October, the government of Maharashtra challenged the HC’s order in the Supreme Court.
“The prosecution has not proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, and the benefit of doubt goes in favour of the accused (Salman)”.

As Justice Joshi asked for Salman to be in court when the final verdict was pronounced, Salman reached the court at 1.30 pm with his sister Alvira and bodyguard Shera.
