“Carol” is up for greatest drama towards Pioneer-period film “The Revenant”, psychological thriller “Room“, Catholic Church abuse probe “Spotlight” and thriller “Mad Max: Fury Road”, a shock contender in the class, which not often sees a blockbuster motion nominee. “I’m nominated as an actress for a Golden Globe what a dream is this real!”
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which bestows the Golden Globes, exhibited a lack of sentiment for AMC’s “Mad Men”, which completed its stellar run last season.
Rather, the Globes’ lead actor group features Bryan Cranston for “Trumbo”, Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Revenant”, Michael Fassbender for “Steve Jobs”, Eddie Redmayne for “The Danish Girl” and Will Smith for “Concussion”.
The nominees for best actress in a drama are Cate Blanchett (Carol), Brie Larson (Room), Rooney Mara (Carol), Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn), and Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl).
The nominees for best drama series include only Fox’s breakout hit “Empire” among broadcast networks, plus USA’s “Mr. Robot”, Netflix’s “Narcos”, Starz’ “Outlander” and “Game of Thrones” on HBO.
-Animated Film: “Anomalisa”, “The Good Dinosaur”, “Inside Out”, “The Peanuts Movie,” “Shaun the Sheep Movie”.
Actors Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloe Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid will announce the nominations for honors for tops television and film awards bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. She was nominated for both best actress in a drama for her performance in The Danish Girl and best supporting actress as the human-seeming robot in Ex Machina.
The best screenplay nominations went to “Room“, “Spotlight”, “The Big Short“, “Steve Jobs” and “The Hateful Eight”.
It also made a breakthrough with this week’s Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations, earning 10 nods and again overtaking HBO for the first time in a top awards context.
“Lawrence’s turn as the Miracle Mop inventor in “Joy” will fight it out with McCarthy’s “Spy”, Amy Schumer for Trainwreck”, Maggie Smith for “The Lady In The Van” and Lily Tomlin for “Grandma” in the best actress – musical or comedy list.
And Spotlight was perhaps too much of an ensemble piece for the Globes.
In the television category, the most surprising omission was for “Downton Abbey”, which received a nod only for Joanne Froggatt for her role as the beleaguered house servant Anna Bates in PBS’s most popular show, which begins its final and sixth season January 2016.
