Since October 1, nearly daily attacks and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers and violence between Palestinians and Israeli settlers have killed 109 Palestinians (including an Israeli Arab), 17 Israelis, an American and an Eritrean, according to an AFP count.
Israeli troops fire tear gas toward Palestinians gathering near the scene of what the Israeli military claims was a suspected stabbing attack by a Palestinian, south of the city of al-Khalil (Hebron), the occupied West Bank, November 25, 2015.
Israel’s military said an “Israeli was stabbed and wounded northwest of Ramallah” and the assailant was shot at the scene.
Also Friday, two Palestinians attacked a soldier with knives in Hebron, the largest Palestinian city in the West Bank, wounding him before Israeli troops shot and killed them, the military said.
Nineteen Israelis mainly attackers, and over 100 Palestinians, have now been killed amid spiralling unrest. “Four months have passed since the arson attack against the Dawabsha family”, he said in a statement.
The soldiers fired dozens of gas bombs, many of which were fired directly into Palestinian homes where women and children had sheltered to escape the gas in the streets.
The Jewish state faces mounting pressure to bring to justice the perpetrators of the July attack in the occupied West Bank, with a United Nations envoy expressing concern over the “slow progress” in the probe.
In rare cases when indictments are issued, Israel has an extremely low conviction rate for attacks on Palestinians perpetrated by Israeli Jews.
After warning shots were ignored, “forces fired live fire and tank rounds” and the suspects retreated, she said.
A month after those arrests, Israeli defense minister Moshe Yaalon admitted the army knew who had committed the lethal torching of the Dawabsha home but had not taken any legal action “in order to protect the identity of their sources”.
Violence continues as Palestinians allegedly stab Israeli soldiers before being shot dead.
“Amidst the current escalation of violence, it is essential that all firmly and consistently reject terrorism and act decisively to stop hatred and incitement”, the United Nations official, Nickolay Mladenov, said.
