Heisman Trophy Award Winner Prediction: Stanford’s RB Christian McCaffrey

The field of running backs in this season’s Heisman race was exceptional, but neither Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliot, Florida State’s Dalvin Cook, LSU’s Fournette nor Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey ran for over 200 yards in a game as many times as Henry did.

“That pain and hurt is going to take us a long way and get us through any situation that comes by.”, Watson said. Stanford is setting up their Heisman-hopeful for success, utilizing him in various positions that create an edge for the Cardinal. He has also tied a TD record with the 23 touchdowns he had this season. Henry is 6-3, 242 pounds. It’s beginning to look as though a running back may win for the first time in five years.

It’s hard to know exactly where McCaffrey stands because in recent years the Heisman has cracked down on drama-killing leaks.

Watson showed flashes of his talent with 14 touchdown passes and two interceptions in his injury-shortened freshman season. I’ve got nothing against Alabama’s Derrick Henry or Clemson’s DeShaun Watson – both fine players – but I want our guy to win.

McCaffrey can run in traffic – he leads the country in runs of 10-plus yards against boxes containing eight or more defenders this year – and he can deliver in space, a skill evidenced by his national top-10 rank in kick return average. Despite the relatively poor play from Alabama this year, Henry has been carrying the Crimson Tide offensively for the entire season.

“My main focus is on finishing and helping this team win”, Henry said after the SEC championship game.

Christian McCaffrey is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the country.

There is no concrete definition of a Heisman Moment; as with obscenity and sandwiches, it is one of those things you know when you see.

Hurlbut describes McCaffrey as a “football player’s football player”.

Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey, who piled up unprecedented numbers while becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist, now has a math problem to solve.

Even so, Henry said he is a little nervous for the presentation, and that he hasn’t yet written a speech.

“I’m pumped”, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said about being at the ceremony with his sophomore QB.

To say that Christian McCaffrey is not deserving of a Heisman Trophy would be an inaccurate statement. He has posted 1,741 yards this season, an LSU record. Clemson has never had a Heisman victor.

“Best player in the nation”, Shaw said of McCaffrey, a sophomore.

“Now that I live in the southeast”, said Gerhart, a running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, “I understand the whole east coast bias thing…”

A couple more Jackets took home All-Conference honors following impressive showings during the regular season yesterday when it was announced that Adam Gotsis and Freddie Burden had been named to Coaches’ All-ACC team.

McCaffrey has gained a lot of late buzz after his performance in the Pac-12 championship game. He had 319 carries for 1847 yards 5.8 yards per carry and 8 touchdowns He also had 41 receptions for 540 yards 13.2 per catch and 4 touchdowns. Henry already has established the SEC single-season rushing record (1,986 yards), previously held by Herschel Walker, and will be able to pad his stats during Alabama’s participation in the College Football Playoff.

Since the start of the new millennium, only two running backs have won the Heisman Trophy Award – Reggie Bush in 2005 (since vacated), and Mark Ingram in ’09.
