Mets OF Cuddyer reportedly retires

A two-time All-Star, the highlight of his career came in 2013 as he won the National League batting title behind a. 331 average.

It’s still unclear whether Cuddyer will get any of his 2016 salary, but even he gets a portion of it, this still feels like a good break for the Mets, especially considering there are still impact corner outfielder available in free agency.

Michael Cuddyer (back) is retiring from baseball, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.

Early Friday evening, Cuddyer was listed as having retired on the Mets’ MLB.com transaction page.

The Rockies used the draft pick awarded to them as a result of Cuddyer turning down the qualifying offer and signing with another team to draft high school pitcher Mike Nikorak, who struggled in his first taste of pro ball but is still considered a highly promising prospect.

In 2014, Cuddyer signed a two-year $21 million deal with the New York Mets.

Cuddyer hit. 259 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs during an injury-interrupted season. His best seasons in Minnesota were 2006, when he hit. A career. 277 hitter, Cuddyer added 197 home runs, 794 RBI, 333 doubles, 1,522 hits and 809 runs scored. He went on to play for the Rockies for three seasons before joining the Mets.
