“Instead we see “Room” and ‘Spotlight, ‘ little indie movies, and that is sending a strong message to Hollywood that measurement does not matter they usually might should attempt more durable”. Hulu, the ABC-NBC-Fox joint-owned online video venture, landed a best comedy series nomination for its modern dating show Casual.

Each week, Uproxx’s Awards Forecast offers an assessment of who/what will be nominated for Oscars come January, based on pundit chatter and pre-Oscar awards.

The Globe nominations conclude the first wave of selections for “awards season”, which included Wednesday’s SAG Awards nominations, Monday’s Grammy nominations and releases of critics’ and organizations’ best-of lists.

It got four Golden Globes nominations, including one for the film’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio. For the SAG Awards, “Carol” actress Mara and “Girl” actress Alicia Vikander were nominated in the supporting category, but those behind the Globes put them in the lead actress category.

In December past year, showbiz satire “Birdman” and coming-of-age movie “Boyhood” were already established as Oscar frontrunners.

Idris Elba earned a best supporting actor nomination for his searing turn as the leader of a group of child soldier rebels.

Kate Winslet – Nominee for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture “Steve Jobs”: “I am completely over the moon and feel so honored to be nominated for a Golden Globe by the HFPA for this film”.

Joining DiCaprio in the all important best actor in a drama category, especially as far as the Oscar race goes, are Michael Fassbender (“Jobs”), Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”), last year’s Oscar victor Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl) and Will Smith (“Concussion”)”.

Those behind “Joy” and “The Martian”, movies which had missed out on earlier nods like those by the Screen Actors Guild Awards, are no doubt happy to see the movies appear as best comedy or musical nominees.

Mark Ruffalo’s nomination for “Infinitely Polar Bear” – a movie nearly no one saw – over “Spotlight” also befuddled. Unlike the Emmys, the Globes actually like to nominate freshmen series and these veterans were shoved aside to make way for newer, buzzier, fare like USA’s “Mr. Robot” and Netflix’s “Narcos”.

Leading the Golden Globe nominees this year with five, including one for best dramatic picture, was Todd Haynes’ 1950s style romance “Carol”. And NBC, the network broadcasting the Golden Globes from Beverly Hills on January 10, was entirely left out in the cold.

-Actress, Movie or Limited Series: Kirsten Dunst, “Fargo”; Lady Gaga, “American Horror Story: Hotel”; Sarah Hay, “Flesh & Bone”; Felicity Huffman, “American Crime”; Queen Latifah. David O. Russell, who has earned best director nominations in recent years for American Hustle and The Fighter, didn’t get a pick for Joy.

Premium rival Showtime suffered a falloff, too, with last year’s nine nominations shrinking to three.
