Another plane carrying around 160 Syrians is due to arrive in Montreal on Saturday, and the pace of arrivals is scheduled to increase to as many as two planes per day.

Trudeau, 43, is progressing with his pledge to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of February, according to Tribune wire reports.

There were questions at the daily White House press briefing about Donald Trump’s proposed Muslim-visitors ban.

Before the refugee families headed to their hotels, they were suited up with winter coats, as Canada’s climes are just a bit different from those in Aleppo and Damascus, where most of the refugees are from.

The first family was a man, woman and 16-month-old girl.

“I can’t imagine what you’ve been through, and I really hope you like it here in Canada”, one boy said. “We felt ourselves at home”. “You’re safe at home now”.

“We suffered a lot”. Trudeau earlier thanked staff and volunteers who were processing the refugees.

The refugees arrived just weeks after Canada’s newly elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his country would pull its fighter jets from a US-led coalition targeting Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria. A prominent activist with Black Lives Matter, Shaun King, tweeted: “Absolutely love the warmth, love, and compassion I see being shown toward tired Syrian refugees in Canada”.

“All Canadians are encouraged to join in the efforts to help Syrian refugees flourish in their new communities”. In times of crisis in decades past, Canada resettled refugees quickly and in large numbers.
