Palestinian killed after ramming car into group of Israelis

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman for Gaza health ministry, said that 38-year-old Sami Madi was killed in the clashes that erupted behind the border fence east of al-Bureij Refugee camp in central Gaza Strip. The surrounding area has become a focal point for protests in this latest outbreak of unrest which has now lasted more than two months, costing 20 Jewish, and more than 110 Palestinian lives.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military shot and killed another Palestinian, identified as Issa Hroub, 55, near al-Khalil, claiming he had attempted to ram his auto into Israeli forces at a checkpoint there.

Security forces launched a manhunt for the attacker, who was believed to have come from around the nearby Palestinian city of Jenin. The perpetrator rammed them with a vehicle, Army Radio reported. The military said forces tried to disperse the riot with nonlethal means before firing “towards inciting characters”.

Hundreds of mourners gathered on Friday to bury Oday Ersheid next to his sister, Dania, who was killed in October. 22 of the total dead are Palestinian children, and 4 are women, confirmed the coalition.

Some 75 of the Palestinians are alleged to have launched attacks on Israelis, and died as a result, while the remained died in clashes with security forces.

Israel has withheld the bodies of many attackers, a policy authorities say acts as a deterrent but that critics argue leads to more anger. In some previous car-ramming attacks, the driver then emerged to try to stab Israelis.

“If (Israel) wants to make us suffer by stealing and keeping the bodies of the martyrs, we will make it suffer by being patient and resilient”, he told AFP. Twelve other Palestinians were wounded.

No Israelis were hurt in the incident.

Palestinian officials said that the weak global donations for the rebuilding process was the major reason for the delayed progress. Their condition was not known. In Gaza, Hamas mobilized thousands of demonstrators in several locations to mark its 28th birthday.
