Peterson’s tibia and fibula – the two bones in the shin area – were fractured during the post-game rush, Register reporter Rick Brown told the Register. Alas, it was not to be and the shot clanged out, triggering a court-storming by the Iowa State fans in a state of bewilderment.

It looked like Iowa would run away with the win as Ioaw State had no answer for Iowa forward Jared Uthoff in the first half. They do have a nice looking win over Florida Stae in the ACC-B10 challenge, but a road win against a top-5 opponent would have done wonders to their resume.
Peterson even addressed the incident on Twitter.
Last season, when Kansas State fans stormed the court after a win over No. 8 Kansas, a video of the frenzied event showed Jayhawks Coach Bill Self getting pinned against the scorers’ table and one fan purposefully running into a player. KU coach Bill Self and K-State coach Bruce Weber were pinned against the scorer’s table and a fan bumped Jamari Traylor. I have renounced my Court Storming throne. Prohm and I went out to talk to him and tried to comfort him.
Peterson has covered sports in Iowa for the Register for roughly four decades. Doctors put a rod in Peterson’s lower left leg, and it’s unclear when he will be able to return to work.
The conference statement says they are sorry to hear about the injury – wish Peterson a speedy recovery – and will have no further comment.

Peterson will miss Sunday’s Iowa State-Arkansas-Pine Bluff game, but he hopes to return in time for a December 19 matchup between the Cyclones and Northern Iowa in Des Moines, just blocks from his hospital bed.
