Patriots WR Julian Edelman returns to practice

The Pats’ top receiver suffered a broken foot back in November, with the expectation he’d miss somewhere between six and eight weeks (much like Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant).

The Patriots need some healthy offensive weapons. Allowing a punt to be blocked and returned for a touchdown with just a few seconds left in the first half, and then giving up an 83-yard punt return for a touchdown to Darren Sproles. The team’s offense, while still capable, has not been almost as dynamic since he exited at the end of the first quarter against the Giants in Week 10. It has been no easy road to recovery for Edelman but he worked hard to bounce back.

With Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski out, somebody had to step up in the receiving game for Tom Brady, and late in this game it was James White. Edelman knew that the Patriots needed him now more than ever amid the teams struggles.

A source said there is no update to his recovery timetable, which is expected to span 6-8 weeks, so the absolute earliest Edelman would return to the field would be Week 16 against the Jets, ironically in the same building where the injury occurred.

The Patriots likely just wanted to test him out on the field, and his practice time was probably limited.

At this time it is unlikely that Edelman will be playing in the Texans game though, according to the NFL.
