Pochettino: It’s too soon to tip Spurs for Premier League title

Newcastle arrive in the capital off the back of a 2-0 victory over Liverpool last weekend so they should be in confident mood of picking up a positive result at the Lane.

Tottenham, meanwhile, appear to be the team who are the toughest to beat as they have not suffered a Premier League loss since the opening day of the season, against Manchester United.

Enjoying an excellent campaign in the Premier League, Tottenham clinched top spot in Group J by outclassing Monaco 4-1 at White Hart Lane.

Steve McClaren has hailed the impact of Harry Kane who has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading strikers. They have built a really good squad.

Pochettino is convinced that his methods of subtly integrating academy players with the first team helps them to put in such confidence performances when they are called upon, like Onomah did last week.

Not only has Pochettino made Spurs into serious top-four contenders, but he has also given them an outside shot at the title. Why not? It is impossible to set the limit for him as he is 18 and is very strong.

Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor are both unavailable due to hamstring problems as are long-term absentees Tim Krul, Gabriel Obertan and Massadio Haidara.

Dier sustained a knock in the win over Monaco on Thursday and was substituted before half-time but the midfielder is expected to fit in time to face the Magpies.

Tottenham Hotspur scored a thumping midweek Europa League victory over AS Monaco and will be aiming to take that devastating form into the weekend as they are presented with a fixture that, on paper, they should deal with comfortably. “Sunday is a big game”.

“Maybe we will have to rest him during the Christmas games, but we have to be focused on the next game”. We are doing well but at home we have to take the three points against Newcastle. So we have to prepare for the battle.

“We need our squad. We have a lot of talent here”.

– Newcastle have won just one of the last 14 Premier League away games (W1 D2 L11), scoring a total of just five goals in that run and conceding 35. – The Magpies have dropped the joint-most points from winning positions this season (10 – along with Aston Villa).

Pacesetters Leicester are the only team that can match such a tally, but Spurs have also recorded a division-high eight draws. Please note that comments are automatically checked for inappropriate language and will be removed accordingly.
