Seeking to change the Opposition discourse that the government has reached out to them only for the passage of GST, Modi linked the disruptions in Parliament with the loss of the poor in the country. “India has never accepted the diktat that the queen is not answerable to law”, Jaitley said in a Facebook post.

During his interaction with the editors and senior journalists here in the presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Rahul Gandhi off the record discussed with them the prevailing political scenario of the country, Assam and the North East region, the issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh and India’s foreign policy.

Expressing his disappointment, the Prime Minister said that democracy “cannot be restricted to elections and government only” and everyone must feel that he or she is working for the country’s progress.

Chennai: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today ridiculed Congress for dragging the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the National Herald issue and accused the party of fighting a legal battle in Parliament. The Congress leaders are seen defending the indefensible as Sonia and Rahul have been summoned by the trial court after the Delhi high court quashed their petition to cancel it.

On GST, Chidambaram said that the Congress party is only against the present draft of the GST. The Congress continued to create ruckus in Rajya Sabha, where the BJP does not have majority and where the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill has to be passed in order to become a law (the Lok Sabha has already cleared it).

The legal case against the Gandhis, brought by BJP member Subramanian Swamy, alleges the mother-son duo used $13.5 million of their party’s funds to pay debts accrued by a now defunct newspaper business. By disrupting democracy the financial web created by the Congress leaders can not be undone.

If anyone has an issue with tax authorities, they can go in for appeal, he added.

He, however, said the charges levelled against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi by the BJP were without any substance.

“They (Congress leadership) have acquired properties worth huge amounts without spending anything”. Jaitley said: “If that (1 per cent tax) is a deal breaker with regard to manufacturing states, we thought lets talk with them”. “They have created huge taxable income in favour of the real estate company”, the minister said.

Jaitley asked why Congress party and its leaders not contest the notice before the court.

“The answer to the Congress Party’s leadership landing up in a “Chakravyuh” is to fight their battle legally and not disrupt Parliament”. Is that a charge against the courts?”Jaitley asked”.
