The streak lives! 24-0 Warriors somehow survive epic thriller

Playing the sixth of a gruelling seven-game road trip that ends Saturday at Milwaukee, the Warriors survived their toughest challenge of the season against the upset-minded Celtics.

On the road to greatness, the Golden State Warriors are frequently dazzling. While the Celtics were fighting tooth and nail deep into the night, the Hornets were able to rest their regulars down the stretch in an impressive 123-99 win at Memphis on Friday.

The Dubs are set to face the Boston Celtics next but it wouldn’t be surprising to find the Warriors as favorites to make it 24-0. The early season MVP favorite in Steph Curry had an “off night” with just 35 points. Bradley chipped in 19 points while hounding Curry throughout the night.

Golden State fell to 24-1.

“Nothing was pretty about this game”, said Curry. “We were a couple of stops away, but we didn’t do it”. Now, they trail only the 33 in a row won by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers. It was at the end of a seven-game road trip, and we haven’t had a 7-0 road trip in National Basketball Association history.

“We will definitely cherish this, because it doesn’t happen often”, Golden State center Andrew Bogut said. “You don’t want to count the last four a year ago?”

Golden State hit just 6 of 26 3-point attempts in the loss. They did an admirable job, especially with Turner rejecting a pair of shots by Curry in the middle of the fourth quarter. “But that’s how superstars are in this league”.

Warriors swingman Andre Iguodala added two more foul shots with 5.4 seconds remaining as Golden State managed to hold off the tenacious Celtics.

“When you talk about the streak, what’s bigger than the streak is they’re the world champs, ” coach Jason Kidd said. He played high-alert defense throughout his 46-plus minutes of action while logging 18 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds.

After a contest that saw 22 lead changes and a potent Warriors offense shoot just 39.3 percent from the floor, Stevens was asked if there is such a thing as a great loss.

Stephen Curry didn’t have his best shooting night against the Celtics, but led the Warriors with 38 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists. But he got a lot of help from Draymond Green, who made a bunch of critical plays that kept Golden State within striking distance.

“It hurts. We were there the whole time”, said Olynyk. We got stops and everybody contributed tonight. “We’ll dig deep for (Saturday)”. Who will win this game? The Warriors outscored the Nets 10-2 in the extra 5 minutes.

In San Antonio, LaMarcus Aldridge had 24 points, Kawhi Leonard had 16 points and they each had 11 rebounds to lift the Spurs over Los Angeles.

Green said: “The same old same old, which has made us who we are”. “I remember them having to change the rules because of me and my brothers”. Klay Thompson, returning after missing a game with a sprained ankle, had 12 points on 4-of-14 shooting. New England Patriots players Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and LeGarrette Blount were in the crowd…. Barnes missed his seventh straight game….
